| ***PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING!***Medical, underage and copyright info*** The 'Alternative Nation' Tattoo & Piercing forum comprises individuals who are passionate and knowledgeable about body modification. However, unless stated they are not medical professionals and do not offer specific medical advice, rather their experience, which they are happy to share.
Individuals can have extreme reactions to certain colours or types of tattoo ink. The signs may be itchy or raised skin or small lumps.
The signs of an infected piercing are prolonged swelling, localised redness, pain - even when not touching the infected area, a yellow/green discharge and localised heat.
If you have any doubts about a possibly infected piercing, or a reaction to tattoo ink, please ask our opinion. However we strongly advise that you consult a recognised medical professional or any of the tattooists or piercers listed in the appropriate FAQ. We may have a wealth of experience - but we are occasionally fallible!
