Potato pickers aren't proles, back in Ireland we regard them as Kings.
Many there would happily accept potatoe in exchange for goods and services, or indeed sexual favours (which is both good and a service).
He (or she) who holds the potatoes holds the power, more so in the post-famine Ireland.
