Absolute work of genius. The impact is obviously huge, and its almost hard to conceive a world in which people do not refer to catch 22 situations. The characters are amazing, and for once I genuinely like the main character. Quite often either I read books in which we are not meant to (Duncan Thaw in Lanark) or they prove so annoying it defies belief (despite my holding Battle Royale in my top 3 books, Shuya and Noriko qualify here). However, my favourite character is actually Miles, I think. The way he exploits everything is amazingly funny. I also love Doc Daneeka, the Chaplain, and Major Major Major.
