| Re: Better living through chemistry Ephedrine and pseudoephedrine are very similar (sympathomimetic amine), the latter being the main ingredient in sudafed (used to be extracted and cut with MDMA for ecstasy use) and other over the counter decongestant remedies. It is a powerful stimulant and well known to aid weight loss via the principal mechanism of an indirect action on the adrenergic receptor system. Now, I believe most decongestants tend to contain phenylephrine (similar). The use of pseudoephedrine is now controlled in many countries, but I don't think the UK have gone all the way with it yet.
Stuntgirl, it's similar in structure to the man made amphetamine, but it is derived from a plant. The mode of action is a weaker to the man made amphet version and it's legal (as far as I now, in controlled doses).
