I appreciate their minimalism. There’s nothing wrong with simplicity when it’s done right. I don’t get the appeal of the Ramones over their whole career, but taken as one album on it’s own merits, I think Ramones is pretty flawless. Similarly, I reckon Less Than Jake made two or three cracking modern punk albums, but then made another ten or so that sounded exactly the bloody same. I become bored.
Whilst I’m pondering punk in all it’s forms, I need to add Don’t Turn Away by Face to Face to my list of awesome debuts. |
