Sid Meier and 2K Games today announced a new Civilization spin-off for the the 'next gen' consoles.
Titled Civilization Revolution, it will be the first time that the Civilization series has graced consoles since Civ II was ported to the PlayStation back in 1996. The exact systems which the game will be released on are yet to be confirmed, but Sid Meier mentioned that it would be available for both handheld and full size systems.
The game will follow a similar pattern to it's PC-based predecessors, with the player guiding a race from the beginnings of civilization to man's first voyage to Alpha Centauri. There will be 16 playable races with a selection of real world historical leaders and online multiplayer modes. The timescale of the game has been smoothed out, to allow for a faster paced game with more action then it's PC based counterpart. From the artwork (below) it appears that unit design has a more exaggerated style then units in other recent Civ games, and new items called Relics have been added to the game.
Civilization Revolution is scheduled for a Spring 2008 release, while the second expansion pack for Civilization VI, Beyond the Sword, is due out next month.
