Gow On Target
RANGERS' midfielder Alan Gow has staked his claim for a place in Walter Smith's first-team squad by scoring in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Ayr United at Somerset Park last night.
Alan Gow and Rory LoyThe club's summer signing has not featured so far this season but having bagged two goals in a week - he also hit the net against Queen of the South at Murray Park on September 4 - he will be hoping to have done enough to impress the gaffer ahead of Saturday's trip to Tynecastle.
With several Gers' stars away on international duty the bounce match against the Honest Men gave several players the opportunity to get match action under their belts and it proved a worthwhile exercise for those involved.
Ian Durrant and Tommy Wilson were in charge of the team and they included Graeme Smith, Chris Burke, Andy Webster and Kirk Broadfoot along with Gow in their starting eleven.
Thomas Buffel and Ugo Ehiogu also came through the 90 minutes unscathed and showed that they are close to making full recoveries after their lengthy spells on the tretment table.
It was Gers' youngster Rory Loy, however, that was to open the scoring after 30 minutes before Gowser doubled his side's advantage with only 20 minutes remaining.
Ayr were to score a late consolation goal from a free-kick at the death.
GERS STARTING XI: Smith, McMillan, Ehiogu, Webster, Broadfoot, Burke, Furman, Loy, Gow, Buffel, Lennon
| Looks good for gow and buffel.
