Given that most seem to be suggesting that we can make moral judgements on other cultures because they are less culturally evolved, I have nothing useful to add here.
I mean, do you expect the Sudanese government to issue an international press release stating that they've had a think about it, and they've decided that Islam is a bit harsh after all and they're upgrading their cultural ethics to come into line with the white Christian world where its only okay to torture and kill people in the hundreds of thousands?
(That, and the usual forum abhorrence for physical violence and widespread acceptance (and even in some cases encouragement) of verbal, psychological and emotional violence has left somewhat of a bad taste in my mouth.)
