Cheers for the recommendation, I picked it up from the library today. Halfway through and loving it, can't believe it was written as early as 1948!
1. Joseph Conrad - Heart of Darkness
2. D. H. Lawrence - The Rainbow
3. Evelyn Waugh - A Handful of Dust
4. James Joyce - A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
Some really amazing bits, but overall not my cup of tea at all.
