Aye it's pretty decent. Philo is the head of the influential Glasgow Uni Media Group (and my disertation supervisor) and Miller is the head of Sociology at Strathclyde. Starts of with an analysis of the state of British society post-Thatcher, then goes on the attack at social science's toothlessness in properly analysing these changes. Argues against post-modernist allthatissolidmeltsintoair approaches saying they are disempowering etc: critizises Derrida, Baudriallard, Barthes, etc.
Then there are some responses (although not rebuttals) by people like Chomsky, Stuart Hall, and a few other (generally) media schollars.
