I dunno, I think "hardcore" is a decent wee word to describe... Well, hardcore.

Maybe I'm just used to it, though. It's a word with connotations of aggressive dedication that I think are pretty befitting of the subject. I'm sure it has some kind of origin that made sense at the time to the folk who first coined it. Genrés are generally throwaway tags made-up by people in and around the scene without much thought, that just end up sticking somehow. Maybe a better word could have been chosen to describe ferocious, intense harder-edged punk rock, but it is what it is and most people seem to know what it's supposed to mean anyway.
