New stuff for the weekend!
Amber Asylum - Garden Of Love CD (Paradigms)
San Francisco's Amber Asylum return with their first new recordings in nearly five years . Five dark, brooding chamber works of misanthropic resonance and chilling emotional beauty. A blackened neo-classical masterpiece following their previous recordings on Relapse and Neurot as well as their acclaimed collaborations with Neurosis, Swans and Jarboe amongst others. Just under half an hour of new recordings, featuring the bonus soundtrack recording, "Serenade".
Birchville Cat Motel - Gunpowder Temple Of Heaven CD (Picadisk)
Birchville Cat Motel is the project of New Zealand's Campbell Kneale, who since the 90's has been establishing himself as the leading voice of this generation of NZ sound artists. A single 40 minute long-form piece that keeps building and unfolding. Heaven for drone-noise enthusiasts!
Gnaw Their Tongues - Reeking, Pained And Shuddering CD (Paradigms)
Harrowing, apocalyptic bestial ritual music from the deepest, darkest cellars of the Netherlands. Avant black metal, agonising funeral doom and blackened experimental drone noise stab forth again and again until all the blood is spilt and total carnage is all that remains. Pure dread put to music. Recommended for disturbed folk into Abruptum, Khanate, Axis Of Perdition, Swans and Univers Zero.
Hijokaidan - Polar Nights Live CD (Picadisk)
Hijokaidan has since 1979 been one of the leading voices in Japanese noise music. Starting out with a broad line-up of performers, eventually in the course of the 80-ies the Hijokaidan sound became easily identifiable with the shredding guitar-sound of band-leader Jojo Hiroshige and the high-pitched piercing voice of Junko. Few noise acts have such an instantly recognizable (and intense) sound.
Incapacitants - Burning Orange CD (Picadisk)
Incapacitants are veterans and originators of Japanese noise. This captures some of their rare live shows outside of Japan, described by them as the highlights of their career.
Jarboe - Seeress 7" (Paradigms)
The A-side is a beautiful piano and vocal piece by Jarboe, with accompanying guitar from collabroator Nic Le Ban. The B-side introduces her new free-collective, The Sweet Meat Love And Holy Cult. The result being a 10-piece mantric improv freak-out. Fantastic. We're sure Jarboe needs no introduction to most after her heritage with Swans and her acclaimed solo works.
Oren Ambarchi / Lasse Marhaug - Split 7" (Picadisk)
A collaboration really. Not something for strict followers of Oren’s friendly subdued sine-guitar throb, nor Lasse’s harsh wall of electronic sound, but definitely one for those whose preferences fall in the noisier end of the electro-acoustic composition improv spectrum.
Titan - Untitled CD (Paradigms)
A very special untitled debut release from Brooklyn, NY krautrock mystics, TITAN. Cascading kosmische freakout in three parts over 45 minutes - shimmering mind expansion like a heavy, solar tapestry of Ash Ra Tempel, Klaus Schulze and Zombi. Immense.
