and here are two reviews from that issue of SF+L: Army Of Flying Robots - Life Is Cheap
Debut full length by a UK band that has been active for the last decade, and that's a long ass time in this mad world called hard fucking core. Epic moody build ups, raspy growled vokillz and a sweet production all lend to the menacing yet melodic feel of AOFR. Relevant well written and thought out socio-political lyrics that don't come off as preachy regurgitated shit, add to the full delivery, is this music for the thinkers? Perhaps, or maybe it's music that will just get all the lazy assed apathetic punx thinking? Who knows, take it how ya like, all I know is that AOFR bring to mind bands like Orchid, Die Kreuzen, Palatka, Rorschach, Uranus and Swans. This ain't for the poseur wimps, so outta the way fuckwit! Jinn - s/t
Newcastle's best kept secret is out on the loose and bringing on the brutality full fucking force. Jinn defy being pigeonholed into just one boring genre by sheer range. This album will appeal to the grind-freaks, metal-heads, H/C punks and even those into doom and gloom and noisy rock. To say Jinn shows multiple personalities is putting it lightly. This entire album, track after incredible track holds the listener's attention with the thought of "holy shit, what's coming next?" from beginning to end. There are some definite nods to bands like Motorhead, At The Gates, Neurosis and even some early N.D., weird comparisons since none of the above mentioned sound anything alike. But that's Jinn, different and uncompromising; they are not letting any set genre define their sound, they are too busy creating the ballistic beast that is their music. This has been spending a lot of time on my stereo. |
