Passion is not an empirical fact. Its an emotion it means whatever anyone at any given time, social epoch or whatever chooses it to mean. (Passion as related to notions of romantic love is a relatively modern idea - as is romantic love itself - emotions come and go with fashion.)
The passion of the Christ is different from the passion of the Magdalene and the passion of the tartan army.
