A license to drink & shout mob-handed, virtually anonymous in a sea of similarly coloured strips is going to be a temptation for any agitator. The mindset of 'friendly' rivalry also seems to include dislike and abuse. You can say that its all in fun and thats cool, but it obviously isn't for everyone.
Given that the majority of
Scotland is subject to localised intolerance and small-minded bigotry, I find it hard to believe that football only brings out the best in the majority of people.
You want the mindset to change? Treat any opposing teams and fans with camaraderie and repect.
Don't see it happening. The line between friendly rivalry and sectarian discrimination is invisible to most.
