Once upon a time, young Mr West decided that a good idea pre-subcrawl would be for a few of the football-supporting revellers to watch Rangers play Falkirk in the game that was a lunchtime kickoff.

Said revellers met up outside Times Square earlier than most, and off they walked. Down the backstreets of the city centre, where evolution fears to tread, they marched, eventually finding Annie Miller's, the hostelry from hell.

In they went. One of their number (your correspondent) was wearing a Celtic hoody. He spent the entire 15 minutes he was there with his arms folded in all manner of painful ways so that the regulars would not catch sight of such brazen timmery.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, that place would eject Ian Paisley for not being Orange enough. After taking my leave, it was only upon getting back to Times Square that I realised they were also showing the game, a fact no-one had thought to check beforehand.

The rest of us were basically chased up the street fr leaving early.

How fun.
