I didn't really care for Tactics A2 at all, or any other of the spin offs, personally. The appeal of the main series is curious, because it is basically just grinding up levels to defeat a boss, but the addictiveness is in the simplicity. Combined with the whole look, feel and sound of the main series really elevates it. Nobu Uematsu's score in this game, and all the others, is just fantastic. They wouldnt be the same games without it.
I was lying about IV being difficult by the way. Similar to III on the DS, theres a steep-ish 'learning curve' at the start where you dont really know the weaknesses of the monsters and your companion characters have to be kept alive with tents and potions so they can get enough exp to be of any use. After that the game is, sadly, piss easy - unlike the the originals on the SNES which i'm sure were much harder (mario, zelda etc were also dumbed down for the DS). The game is still a classic though.
