| Re: Guitar Showdown! Strat vs Les Paul vs PRS Being the resident authority on Frank Zappa I'd like to inform you Campestral, that he never really played one guitar for his career. For his early days (60s) he used a Hagstrom 335 effort, then switched to a heavily modified SG copy for the early 70s (the one in Baby Snakes came later, aka the Baby Snakes SG) then during the late 70s / early 80s he played a modified Les Paul (see Shut Up N Player Your Guitar album cover) and then switched to a modified Strat with custom wound Duncans.
However, during all of these periods he played different guitars at different times, the tone on Joe's Garage for example, is quite obviously a mix between a Strat (Watermelon In Easter Hay) and his SG & Les Paul on other tracks
The point is, this thread is entirely pointless, because virtually every guitarist worth a shit uses different guitars for their different tonal possibilities, therefore using an artist's preference from one time or another as a way of establishing "the best" is pretty redundant and stupid, as most people didn't think one was "the best" themselves.
