The picture was pretty much a nothing event in my eyes. It's more the attitude of a few users in this welcome thread that's over the top for very little reason other than to get their jollies.
Personally if that's how they want to have fun then I'd rather they used some other forum for it. I don't want this place to be sanitised but there's a line where it's just a bit of banter and when it's just being shit to someone for very little reason.
People could see this person wasn't taking it well, so what did they do?
a. Stop and back off realising they were upsetting someone.
b. Put another boot in.
