Ah right get you now but just because something is simplified doesn't mean that it's without substance.
The reason they become proverbs is because they generally convey some common sense or human aspect.
In this case an opinion has formed over time and this "little thing" has brought the opinion into a more fully formed basis on which I'd like to act.
