It is like suggesting that the Bamboo and Classic Grand nights Forbes runs are only for forumers signed up to Alternative Nation which I understand is far from the truth (and forumers attending are in the minority of the club goers). What passes as banter for some is misunderstood by others and Glasgow humour is also something not always understood from people not living in the city. Is it so hard to comprehend that maybe some of the banter here might be taken as unpleasant?
Personally I would not want to offend someone by throwing "banter" at them which was taken the wrong way and I certainly wouldn't use the defence that they didn't understand my funnies as an excuse for offending. Sometimes people just need to be a little more open minded on here and not assume that all new users will immediately understand the group dynamics and humour of the place. It takes very little to be courteous and thoughtful. |
Very good point. Something I failed to explain due to my complete lack of writing eloquence. A lot of you know each other in real life and from the beginning so know when banter is banter, e.g. Posh ripping into Syxx, Zippy into Westy etc. Things get murky with users that have never met you lot and are faced with a barrage of insults from a bunch of people that don't even know them. In the past I've felt affonted by this since absolutely none of you have ever met me, but I let it slip. This user obviously didn't get it nor have the inclination to let it slip.
And the whole "banter" defence is an age old excuse for bullying, like it or lump it.
