2. An Utterly Impartial History of Britain (or 2000 years of upper class idiots in charge) - John O'Farrell. Bought for me as a Christmas present after I totally appalled my other half with my complete ignorance of British history. It was a great read for someone like me, although he really should have called it "An Utterly Impartial History of
