I've also had mixed experience.
One from Edinburgh (can't remember exactly who) changed my CV for a job I managed to get an interview for, but despite repeated emails wouldn't actually show me what changes they'd made. That really hacked me off.
Joslin Rowe however, a specialist financial services agency, have always been pretty good to me though. Got a birthday card from them last year actually!
