| Sorry to say, you'll get too much of that stuff in most places. It's called commercial reality - the clubs often can't get a big enough audience to be financially viable if they don't cater to the masses. This unfortunately often means the lowest common denominator.
If you want something less mainstream, go to a smaller, less mainstream club night. Try DKY, dysfunction or Keroscene at Studio 24 in Edinburgh. Try An-R-K at the Cathouse or New Flesh at Destiny in Glasgow. Away from the twin cities, I don't really know Scottish clubs too well, so you're on your own after that.
