| Are rock tours bad for the environment!? See this article
I thought it was quite incredible just how much emissions were involved in the tour that Radiohead went on. That isn't even a huge one, what about the Metallica tours back in the 90s jeezo!

Without rock tours, the entire Ford transit market would collapse |

| Re: Are rock tours bad for the environment!? Lighting classrooms uses energy, let's abolish schools
It's pointless blaming the tours; in principle fans should car-share or cycle or walk or whatever, same as any other reason that people move about.

| Re: Are rock tours bad for the environment!? aye but if you look at the article it's the bands who are making most of the emissions travelling around. I want to see bands as much as anyone, but it does seem heluva wasteful.

| Re: Are rock tours bad for the environment!? Seems a bit pointless though to me to discuss the CO2 emissions created by the fans traveling to the gigs when they'd likely use nearly as much traveling to a record store to buy the album…
…and yet leaving out the 20 fuck-off articulated lorries spewing out diesel fumes as they cart the hundreds of tonnes of amps / speakers / lights / instruments / stage sets etc around the world.
Just not very scientific, I think.
It's quite easy to be too much of a luddite in this respect. Churches, hospitals, creches and such worthy places use energy; we don't want to ban them. Part of being civilised is recognising the importance of cerebral activities like enjoying art (including Radiohead concerts ).
So we can work towards lighting venues with energy-efficient bulbs, heating them with non-destructive technologies like heat exchangers, recycling the glass beer bottles people drink while they're at a gig—in short sensible measures to minimise the damage we do in this area as with others, but until we're prepared to dispense with libraries because manufacturing paper is harmful to the planet, and thus assume our place among the stupid creatures of the world (like chickens, goldfish, and Republicans) then we shouldn't seek to curtail musical events!

| Re: Are rock tours bad for the environment!? yup, but not very much of the limiting the impact style stuff happens at major events and that's concerning

Everything impacts the enviroment and unfortunately we can't just stop everything. We need to approach things in a sensible manner and look at what can and can't be changed then go from there.
In this case it's the amount of flying being done thats having the most impact. They should look at ways of cutting that down where possible.
Though as I said before people want to fly, want to drive their cars want the big 4 by 4 and want to see there fav band live and I can't see that attitude being changed "right or wrong". What can be changed is fuels used etc and thats where the big companies come in. Sure we can do our part and it's small steps like sharing transport, taking public transport etc.

that's why it is far safer for your sexual sanity to only go to Alpacinos gigs, none of us are pretty enough to be mistaken for chicas

| Re: Are rock tours bad for the environment!? I walked past a group of drunk guys a while ago and once I was passed, one of them said loudly "was she fit?"
His mates, who'd noticed that I'm male, fell about and probably still slag him about it, but long hair aside, at 6'3" and 14 stone I wouldn't really be a fit bird anyway, for most people's taste surely?
