The "Goth" tagged threads had me in stitches.

You may already have noticed the new addition to Alternative Nation - we now have thread tags enabled!
You'll see them at the top of most threads and a new link in the navigation bar under the "Welcome" box.
If you use flickr, last.fm, del.icio.us or any number of blogging sites you should be familiar with the ideas behind tags. On altnation.com they are simply a guide and aid for thread topics; more adaptable than forum area alone and more useful than many thread titles.
For a more in depth infomercial about the tags see this thread.
To dive right in go to the main tag cloud page: www.altnation.com/tags/
Currently you can only set tags on the threads you have started yourself and the Moderators will be looking out for any "hilariously" inappropiate tags to remove and as with any tagging system it only works best for those who tag sensibly - for example you'll notice a bias towards useful gaming related tags at present due to the good working practice of Moderators in that area while the tags have been being trialed.
Tags aren't obligatory in any way though so you can just ignore them if you like although they will be popping up in places to help you navigate and find things on the site!

OH OH OHHHH OHHHTom Morello - ''Joe Strummer played as if the world could be changed by a three-minute song, he changed my world''
i think you are tagged and you will be up untill the greatest strorm and when that day comes you will both be looking at each other saying who was it that made up this idea? and of course in due course when the waves come you will say it was you and you will say it was you. so get used to it this is your last moment unless you make something up soon![]()

Just a suggestion.
After using 'em for a few months of testing, they're great where they are.
You could always greasemonkey up a script to hide it?
"more scrolling"?
Last August you asked for 100 and settled for 50 posts per page and you're concerned over less than forty pixels extra scrolling on a page?
Seriously?
Yeah, posts. You know.. the purpose of the message board format. Oh, and I use a greasemonkey script that loads more and more posts as I scroll down to get round the 50 limit.
This is something to scroll past that is not going to be used until the thread has been read. It's fine, though. I've got it hidden thanks to greasemonkey, along with the digit/delicious/whatever else is fashionable this week.
There's no problem here, resolved it myself. Dismount horses, nothing to see here people.
Yas!

It has always been the prerogative of half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothes. But the half-wit remains a half-wit, and the emperor remains an emperor.
aren't they fine at the top of a thread because they give a better indication of the content than the thread title on its own?
Ask Stew for his Greasemonkey script.
Tags at the bottom result in tags not really being used ime, mods less likely to add tags to threads when the "add tag" line isn't in their face, and just not noticeable.
It's great for blog or news posts to have 'em at the bottom, but on a forum at the top makes more sense.
Have been pondering for a while, but I believe I'm about to propose how certain forums get moderated to fall in line with tagging a bit better. *scratches head thoughtfully*
Slight problem being I'm stuck on a laptop at the moment, but I just knocked together a quick one for you using a diy greasemonkey extension. *Shudders* (The Pool/Chelsea game is on, c'mon!)

I'll bump when I have the proper, but this'll see you through the next few days when I'm away on a course.![]()
