Under Scots law, it's all just "Defamation" - And there is a defence of "Veritas", which means that if the statement can be proven as true ( ie The Real Thing ) then there is no defamation.

Where do you get that from? If the 'statement' can be proved or shown to be true, then there is no defamation or slander (spoken), libel (written). Photographic evidence is the best these days, I hear.

I'm sure I've heard it mentioned by mum (lawyer) in the past[1].

Defamation was probably the wrong word to use, but I was under the impression it could still be actioned.

Example: "Person xx is a paedophile". This is fine if true, making it public serves the purpose of warning people to keep their kids away from Neverland wherever a hypothetical paedophile might live.

"Person xx is impotent". Even if true, you'd have a hard time showing that there was any reason it was made public apart from making them look bad.

[1]Bear in mind that she gave up work to give birth to me, so that's been just under 30 years since she was actively involved in law. And she's frequently wrong about all kinds of shit.

Possibly it merits it's own thread? I believe one reason (big reason) the request was made to close the forum was for the very reason that there was topics such as this. However, I love it, so keep it up
