Re: Site Sponsors

That wouldn't be a bad idea, though in truth nofollowing everything is bloody stupid = defeats the point, and nofollow doesn't do what most people think anyway.

It's only spam we don't want nofollowed, and we kill that on sight anyhow.

Basically, it's a tag within a link that instructs search engines to disregard any affiliation between the link and the domain/page it appears on.

Re: Site Sponsors

Spotted a few ads about the site today, mostly little square Amazon ads in gig listings or articles. Are Sponsors going to have to live with these or is it a work in progress?

Re: Site Sponsors

If you're a sponsor the banners are taken away, not the little ones.

It's worthless, is what it is.

I'll look at it post-move if nobody else does; I think it's a setting buried in vB somewhere that's switched on by default, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, it's that too. There's also an awful lot of internal nofollow links here too, which may do more harm than good.

But I'm done with SEO now and look forward to starting my new CSS job on Monday.

MAkes a fair point about gig ticket links but personally I'd go with the spirit of "remove all ads for sponsors" though. And that's not just because it was my oversight that added the amazon ads for everyone...

vBSEO setting, & I don't touch that, grr hiss spit

& rel nofollow is useful for getting spiders to not list bumph pages such as the "email to friend" things and the like that are still shown to guests, no?

No; all nofollow does is say ‘I'm not related to this page (on another site), even though I link to it’, it doesn't actually prevent spidering and indexing at all. Having nofollow on internal links doesn't really make any sense at all; we already detect spiders, best off just hiding the chaff from them (within the normal acceptable boundaries of spider-specific content serving).

Re: Site Sponsors

Tagging internal links with nofollow can also damage your own search engine rankings, which seems odd for an SEO plugin to do.

Yeah post THEE MOVE (dun dun dun and all that) were intending to remove them, I was more just throwing it back at stew due to the tone in which he asked , though I might add in a buy this album affiliate link to album reviews and band info pages.

Cool cool. I just hadn't noticed them before. You could always do an Xbox Live Arcade* and charge us more money to remove the Amazon ads

*I refer particularly to Lumines for Xbox, where you have to pay for the incomplete game and then pay more for additional game features which are standard on PSP versions of the game.

Re: Site Sponsors

How come none of the Sponsor AN logos are showing using the white skin under anyone's username?

Re-design or just disabled?
