Alright everyone! As keith pointed out there is reviews on the MTUK site, but i shall post them here for us!
Both good reviews all round, so pats on the back well deserved everyone!
Snooty review: Speaks of 'regional' hahahaha!
After recently hearing their rather thrashtastic new demo, the band I had most been looking forward to seeing today were Amok. Having travelled all the way down from bonnie Scotland, who could blame their frontman for wanting to enjoy a beer or ten? Well the grizzly result was that he had to make a swift stage exit during their set to regurgitate some of that excess alcohol. Lovely!
From the offset this band had me captivated as well crafted thrash songs were delivered with the utmost conviction and a togetherness that few bands of their short lifespan are able to grasp. Their accessible sound is complimented by the charismatic energy of frontman Stephen Matulewicz and the unrelenting passion on display from the rest of the band as they pack a heavier than thou thrash metal punch. Amok truly were the band of the day for me!
Demo: Another good yin!
Here we have the second demo from this four piece thrash band Amok, who first emerged onto the scene in 2004. They proclaim themselves as the “Premium Scottish Thrash” band; quite a bold statement surely although to be fair Scotland isn’t exactly renowned for thrash metal. These lads proudly wear their influences on their sleeves with an obvious tribute to the bay area sound circa 1986.
Indeed Amok haven’t let themselves down here at all. The demo opens with a voice-over intro to “Kill the Gestapo” which soon bursts in to a barrage of thrash riffery to which I would draw comparison to Heathen. It is obvious from the minute he opens his mouth that Stephen Matulewicz is infuriated about something as he continually spits in a venomous tone, hardly surprising then that the songs appear to be largely of a political theme. The exception would be “Thrash Island” which is a typical nod towards the thrash scene and fuck you to the posers that infiltrate the trendy metal world. There is also quite a strong Exodus reference in the sound on this demo.
It is clear that Amok have come a long way since their last recording. Tight musicianship, effortless guitar solos, memorable tunes and a hell of a lot of aggression make up this fine second demo! There is nothing particularly new here but Bay Area Thrash nuts will find this hard to resist.
Theres also some snaps of us in the MTUK site gig phots, a solid one of calum and one of me wi massive arms! Yas!
