Renegade Jug Band
Me again, still looking for acoustic noise makers to join me for some shows and recordings. I've not got anything definate in mind of what I actually need, but some of the following wouldn't go a miss:

Mandolins
Violins
Bodhrans
Banjos
Spoons
Snare drums
Harmonicas
Accordians
Marracas
Kitchen Sink?

Anything acoustic really, the main idea is to make an almighty folk racket and be able to practice anywhere (outdoors if sunny, band member's flats if wet).

Have a wee listen to the songs on www.myspace.com/davehughesmusic for an idea of the type of folk I play and then, if you can offer anything, get in touch. Even if you are pretty rough at it.

I've got a couple gigs booked for the end of the year (14th Dec in Glasgow, 22nd in Aberdeen), so if this actually gets off the ground, i'd love accompaniment - the gigs are paid. And next year I'm gonna carry on with my play anywhere and everywhere regime which took me all over the UK this year.

So yeah, influences: The pogues, The Clash, Seeger Sessions, Al Baker and The Dole Queue, Riot-Folk, Mischief Brew and Erik Petersen

Age not truly important, but 18+ would be preferable (lots of pub playing!).

He's got a banjo I think. Tenor banjo as well which is handy for folk but dunno if he can actually play it. He's half decent on the mandolin. He could be your multi instrumentalist I guess.

Puggs was telling there's a tin whistle out that uses the same fingering as the pipes. Buy him one

I want to learn how to play banjo. How much would I be looking at for a cheap beginner banjo? Do I need to learn an entirely new tuning system (again)?

I just checked good ol' wikipedia and turns out there's lots of different tunings depending on the type and sound your are going for. Ebay has them for about £40 or so.

Let me know if you are taking it up! Most of my songs are in G and are therefore easy

Being a complete hack, I'm thinking of picking up a 6 string banjo in guitar tuning a la Peter Buck. Real banjo players will jeer but I'm a very lazy person.

I got a banjo. It's a 5 string tho' and the only fucking thing I could ever play was "Oh Susanah". Was thinking of looking into getting it turned into a guit-jo. But I need to get it back first...

Ok, here's another update!

My drummer can't do it. But if Mr. Sexual is up for it, the bodhran can be the percussion. Oh,and if you fancy doing penny whistle, then that can add more stuff to other songs!

Two keyboards? I'm thinking more for two hammond B3's, which add's to the Accordian to make one hell of a drony noise! woo.

Wonder if my sister wants to add a flugelhorn to the mix...

All those interested, message me your MSN's and I'll try and work out a practice day

I wonder if theres a chance this could be ready for a show on the 14th in Glasgow... Hmm.
