Knowing fine well that a good soundtrack can add immensely to any second sequel of a comicbook-to-movie conversion, the Spiderman 3 team have pulled out all the stops. Full to the rafters with original tunes by current indie-rock favourites such as The Killers, The Flaming Lips, Snow Patrol, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and their ilk to set the mood for the film.
I look forward to the humourous light-relief and essential character development offered while Chubby Checker’s version of The Twist appears.

Chubby Checker - The Twist
Rogue Wave - Sight Lines
Coconut Records - Summer Day

Do you really think that the flavour-of-the-month bands have been picked to enhance the quality of the film? I find myself thinking occasionally that quite a few of the press-release style announcements on here are a little bit less than honest.
No offence Woolies, its just your official voice is such a glaring difference to your usual heartfelt sincerity.

Clear Air Turbulence: The best hardstyle money can buy.
Bunny & The Misshapes: Really?
I try to reign back from my usual sarcasm when posting news items and I do consciously alter the tone of voice if posting something "official" rather than just my own crappy thoughts. I think the distinction is sometimes important (at least from my own point of view) and the change of tone helps me out with that. Rewriting dry announcements isn't the easiest thing but because I despise straight copy&paste news items with all loathing I can muster, hence I do my best to rewrite. (Although I understand the use & place in the world of c&p news but I'd almost rather they [quote]ed source & link rather than aspire to original content.)
But to mark out the sarcasm fuller than the original post obviously did - I have complete and utter disdain for any comicbook to movie conversion. Occasionally they manage a fair summer blockbuster out of them (such as my vague memory of Spiderman is) but dragging the things out over more than one film leaves me sodden with apathy - I guess scene kids are more likely to go "oh wow, that movie looks great" if their favourite band plays during the trailer though...
oh yeah and actually, the "full to the rafters with orignal blah" was going to be a dig at how the album is being touted by PR bods as all original from "great new artists" but actually isn't.
I must have lost interest half way through typing the sentence.
So to recap:
News Items I post have to the best of my knowledge all full and good information.
The editorial opinions expressed may be liberally laced with sarcasm, irony and piss-takery.
So urm, not so different from my normal posting then...

I was geuinely curious as I didn't think it was likely that they were paying the site for the advertising and couldn't imagine why we seem to shill for so many things that aren't actually of any interest to either the mod making the announcement or the majority of the userbase.
It wasn't the lack of sarcasm, or the offical tone that made me notice this, its that you posted something that I'm pretty sure you disagree with. It makes sense if its just apathy to the subject matter that causes you to unconsciously re-write the press release, but I can't imagine why you'd do it as an unpaid service to columbia pictures.
Not annoyed or anything, just curious as I've noticed this many, many times.

I consider it more of a service to altnation than to columbia pictures or any PR types, hence why I post them very intermittently at times and only things that I think may be of interest (I believe there's a big thread on Spiderman 3 movie), relevance or at least stimulate a backlash discussion here. Also hence the pile of emails from PR company's asking if things might make the site while I post rubbish celeb gossip from Gigwise... Although I don't actually receive more than a couple news emails per month from PR types for altnation.
I probably post worse about things I have no interest in and am only thinking of other AN folks for, kinda natural but the overlap of my personal interests and altnation forumers at large seems sparse at times. I'm pretty certain that the Admin & Editors are always welcome for new volunteers to post original news content they can source themselves.
For example, Largest of Als is good at movie news but his formatting and style don't meet the current guidelines on what is useable as frontpage tagged news unfortunately.
In fact I might suggest a How To Post AN News guide or "we want news posters" thread to those at the top of the AN pile. Expect something to come of it around christmas maybe...![]()
