| Ravi Shankar - Radio 2 Documentary - Wednesday 4th April - 10pm I hope I remember to listen to this, it appears to be in 3 parts and my attention span is pretty bad for radio documentaries. I'll write some essays along to it!
From BBC Radio 2 Website:
Sitar legend, Ravi Shankar’s importance in the world of music is phenomenal. As well as being hugely respected in his native India for his brilliance on the Sitar, Ravi was responsible for bringing a new sound to the West and inspiring a generation of bands including The Beatles, The Byrds, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones and The Yardbirds. His radical sounds also attracted the attentions of the giants in the Jazz world including John Coltrane and John McLaughlin. Add to this his huge successes as a composer for soundtracks (including his Oscar nominated work on Ghandi) and his collaborations with Yehudi Menuhin and Philip Glass and a fascinating story emerges. |
