The Edinburgh scene of late has not exactly been flourishing. With a few notable exceptions such as Dizzie Rascal or Scratch Perverts, many names are simply not playing Edinburgh at the moment. Fans of true hiphop are increasingly having to look outside the burgh to satisfy their habits. SCRATCH has battled against this for the last couple of years pretty much single handedly (particularly when it come to U.S artists) and despite no longer being a monthly event has still blessed us with artists such as Sugarhill Gang, Ali Shaheed Mohammad, Lord Finesse, Biz Markie and De La Soul. True to form, the Scratch boys don't disappoint with another unbelievable guest: J-Zone + DJ SHEEP are... XXXTRA CHEE$E!!
On a recent tour of Australia -after drinkin' one too many mojitos- the "EXTRA CHEE$E" name was thrown around and the concept was set in place... To get muthafuckaz out their seat and party to every genre of music except reggaeton or current hip-hop. Classics *AND* slept on tracks from the 70s, 80s, 90s.
J-Zone isn't a new name to listeners of hip-hop. With 7 full lengh albums under his belt on his own label Old Maid Entertainment, he's done beats for Biz Markie, Sadat X, Tha Alkaholiks, Casual, Prince Po (Organized Konfusion), Vast Aire, RA the Rugged Man, Del, Tame One, MF Grimm and many more. He's also collaborated with Da Beatminerz, Pete Rock & Ed OG, DJ Premier, Danger Mouse & Cee-Lo (Gnarls Barkley), Large Professor, MC Serch, DJ Miz, Greg Nice, Grand Puba, Vance Wright and Jehst & Harry Love as a rapper, DJ and studio engineer.
DJ Sheep is a 3 x Australian State DMC Champion and respected worldwide in the record diggin' community, no slow mixes and fancy bullshit here, just straight up party rockin' and track selections that will funk your head up... Expect special gems from his worldwide diggin' adventures thrown in the mix, a must for any record nerd. His DJ crew, Terntable Jediz are the most respected group of turntablists in Australia, Established in 1998 and certified with their 2004 release "All Out War" album which featured beats and raps from Celph Titled, beats from Jon Doe, and a line-up of Australia's best rap talent.
