Re: Espion releases present and future..

Toob - Skinbox EP out now on Process Recordings, featuring remixes by Espion, Jon Kennedy and Le Sarge, available from Juno, Beatport and more..

With the press now getting all excited about the release of the new Toob album "Push Me, Pull You" (See this month's DJ Mag, iDJ, Clash, Artrocker and more) and radio across the board picking their favourite tracks from the album, Process Recordings presents a remix package of the album's second track "Skinbox". Simultaneously a great groove and a sinister lyric, it could be a clever pop duet. This remix collection crosses a huge range of styles: Jon Kennedy's reconstruction adds a live bass and the breadth of perfectly chosen, unignorable musical detail that is the trademark of his work on the labels Grand Central and Tru Thoughts. The contrast between lyrics and music make the remix, where the Le Sarge En Board Boardroom mix and dub go for a more hypnotic effect, taking the track into darker, housier territory. And Berlin-based Espion combines the epic and the very human to great effect - an unrelenting bassline and a stuttering rhythm section versus the vocal, now divided into separate parts (man vs. woman) for Toob's Jakeone and the album's regular contributor Wendy Stubbs of Alpha.

Promo info:

First up on release for Electronic Ireland’s tech-house label is “Electronic Youths” Northern Irish Dj and Producer Vakama (Conor Dalton) with The Guest EP. This release is long overdue, but is worth the wait! Vakama, currently residing in glasgow training to be a mastering engineer, is just back from gigs in North America, namely the legendary Circa “superclub” sharing a lineup with Gregor Tresher, and is no stranger to the techno scene with warmups for the likes of Christian Smith to Adultnapper.

“The Guest” is a straight up slab of tech with minimal influences and glitchy cut up stabs. A staggering lead synth and dark solid bassline builds on top of a well constructed and teasing structure. The Guest features 2 remixes, first one by Glasgow’s finest ‘Espion’ and then a remix from Irish man of the moment - Corrugated Tunnel. Espions remix takes care of the beefier bassy club sound and corrugated tunnel provides the dub side with a deep sounding pulse. The Guest is a fine introduction to Skream Science, really setting the tone and sound of the label for future releases.
