| Re: Booking Tours Just about every punk/hardcore band I've seen in my lifetime that's chosen the corporate booking agent route has ended up playing in Glasgow with cowboy promoters to less than half the audience they'd have got if things had been set up by a well respected DIY promoter/collective. Get the right contacts on the DIY network and people come through on mutual respect, not the threat of legal action. I guess it depends what route you want to go down.

| Re: Booking Tours I think, especially will my band, it will take ALOT of solid giging and finding the right contacts to get our cd out in europe, and ALOT of myspace whoring(im talking 50000+)
then if we seem to be liked we can start to sort out a REAL tour
Although the DIY option that bryan and that does seem fun

I guess it depends what route you want to go down. | The best gig we ever did outside the well was in derby with a DIY promo. She gave us £280 and fed us - made the whole tour make enuff cash so we didn't have to dip our own pockets for fuel and stuff. But it is a bit of horses for courses stuff - the better agents deal with DIY promos too and get the good gigs for the touring bands.
Bother is if you have no profile to work with then you're not going to get much attention from agents. I sent dozens of CDs and bios to agents and never got anything out of it at all.

| Re: Booking Tours I must say the best gigs the a team have done have been with mick.
with promotors all they care about is getting ANYONE through the door, but at micks gigs he makes sure all the bands are around the same style meaning its a good crowd!

In my opinion the bands should be arranged first, the date/venue/gig second.
Best show I've done was down at the 12 bar club, a really good matched bill of three bands, then me on last as a 'late act'. After the bands had played, the promoter got up on stage and explained that he usually has a late acoustic slot so he'll be putting out chairs during the next 10 minutes. People left the room to go to the bar while chairs were set out in front of the stage and, to my surprise, people came back for my set. Ended up playing to a packed venue. I've yet to see a gig like that up here.
It's rare to see a promoter 'compere' a show in Glasgow, almost every time I've played outside the city, the promoter has been on stage between acts to introduce them. Works really well and shows respect from the promoter to the bands. |

its a joke | I take a small amount of pleasure in pressing the "Report as Spam" button's on those messages. They still send me them even though I'm not on their friends list, same goes for Ivory Blacks. |

Just a bit of useful info | yeah I've seen his blogs. they are a good read for new bands. Rockers Twisted Ape Non pay to play venues
The last blog I'm not too sure about. I'm not to fond of the way places like Box and capitol treat bands. |

| Re: Booking Tours i wonder how much money used to be scammed out of bands 4/5 years ago when the glasgow music scene was buzzing
This is off topic kinda but this is what happened to my band(silver lining smash) 4 years ago.
twisted ape offer silver lining smash to play the garage on xmas eve with mendeed(dumbarton, jaded(dumbarton) and cortez(dumbarton) bearing in mind me are also from dumbarton, we were ased 8 days before the gig to do this. We were informed we would have to sell £550 of tickets....in 7 days or we wouldnt be allowed to play. Keep in mind that by this time the 3 other dumbarton bands had been selling tickets since september!.
For some reason we agreed to this and went about punting tickets like mad!, in the end up we managed to sell £1200 of tickets ...yes £1200! this was manly because we sold tickets outside before the gig as most peopl in dumbarton had tickets and at that stage mendeed were getting a name for themselfes so there was alot of people coming to see them who were from glasgow etc. Anyway to cut a long story short, we ended up getting told we wouldnt get a sound check, then we got told ok yous can have half a song. We were all 16 at the time and were to excisted about getting to play the garage(not g2) to a big crowd and we ended up being BUMPED.
We got 1 crate of smirnoff ice and 1 crate of beer that we were told not to touch because were were under 18, we got nothing to eat and we got put in a fucking BOX room because mendeed/cortez had the dressing room and the smaller dressing room was locked.
In the ended up twisted ape took £1200 from us after only asking for £500 odd and stupidly our singer gave it to them without questioning why.
that put me off giging for them big time, i understand promoters need to make money for a gig, but they can do it without ripping bands off,
Who wants to go to ivory blacks, the rockers, barfly on a tuesday night to see 1 band that you like?
Any gigs i have ever put on, iv never charged bands to play and never made them sell tickets yet iv always made enough to cover the venue and any equipment, and give the bands something for travel, even if its only a tenner, its a tenner more than what they would have got from one of those rip off bastards!
rant ended
bryan...lets go to the ukraine!
