| Re: glasgow metal bands Ivory Blacks is a perfectly good place to look up gigs. A lot of Glasgow bands play there, so you could start your search there.
Eh and I mean, look up classic Grand as well!!

| Re: glasgow metal bands What kinda metal is your preference? If you like power metal then there's unfortunately about a thousand Glasgow bands you can check out, ditto for metalcore. If you like death metal or thrash metal then there's about a handful of decent bands around doing that. If you're looking for any other kind of metal, move to another city.

| Re: glasgow metal bands If it's sick guitar doodling yer after then ye'll probably be happiest with the millions and millions of power metal bands and "traditional" metal bands kicking about. Here's some of the best:
Switchblade Scream - http://www.myspace.com/switchbladescream
Syth - http://www.myspace.com/sythrocks
Farseer - http://www.myspace.com/farseermetal
Ascension - http://www.myspace.com/ascensionbanduk
I don't necessarily like these bands myself, but I seem to remember them having pretty mad solos that you might dig. I may be wrong about one or two of them, getting them mixed up with other bands, though. Remember that pretty much no local band is gonna be able to afford a decent quality recording as well, by the way, so most bands DO need to be seen live to be appreciated.

| Re: glasgow metal bands don't like switchblade scream, too much prog rock sounding vocals, prefer the screaming stuff. same with syth. lol maybe it's not the guitar i like at all. warzone is pretty cool, i'm just not into that style of singing, seems like a doomed marriage mixing angry music with asinine vocals. plus their influences seem to be major, i prefer bands who are influenced by obscurity, kinda a sign they're really into it. quite like the vocal style of farseer he's very articulate but it still sounds quite heavy. not mad about the guitar though, seems quite insane the level of technique metal guys put themselves up against i mean it's quite easy to lose the music completely when you're concentrating too much on what you're doing. hehe legends is good, kill them all! some of the guitar on breath the skies is cool. the guitarist in ascension sounds alright, i like the stuff on fortress. you're right though, it's all about playing live, that is when folk can really communicate. guess that's what makes live music so brilliant, it's now or never energy. not a fan of the enunciated singing though, just fucking scream it i want to hear you going right through me. i think i like it dark, staring into the abyss metal, show us more of that

| Re: glasgow metal bands I don't like the over-the-top old-school / power metal style of vocal either, but those bands tend to attract the flashiest guitar players.
If you like it dark, ehh, you might like Burning Earth. I do! http://www.myspace.com/onceburningearth

| Re: glasgow metal bands scaven cleaver is excellent, there's loads of stuff in there like rhythm changes and weird progression changes but they always keep coming back to the main theme hehe it's pretty sophisticated. the guitar in it doesn't sound forced, sounds part of the song. season of thunder didn't light me up. can't get what hope lies to play unless it is just a 2 second song? no gigs in glasgow soon then? why only 2 gigs on their list anyway? post some more links please. hmmmm on second listen season of thunder sounds qutie good. they've got a good producer i guess? everything sounds in it's right place
