i always liked this band but just now after hearing senzafine and hexogram it just came washing over me how pretentious metallica are, it's like music by numbers, these guys are only interested in making money there is no soul in their music at all. it could probably be said about a lot of music but it hurts when part of your conception is part of them. thank fuck for sites like this, at least we're always reminded of how cool metal can sound in its rawest form

Just because Lars is a money-grabbing goblin, doesn't mean that's the rest of the bands intentions. Yes the music industry is broken, but it's not like every body is able to go independent and pull a Reznor (whose ethics and work are things to be admired).
Enjoy Metallica for what it is - good, true metal!! No..you won't find the deepest lyrics, and they've made mistakes in their career (most would said Load) but there are worse bands out there who are doing much more damage.
I wish today's generations of bands were as big and powerful as Metallica! They can still perform to thousands at a festival and own the stage. And NOBODY can say they don't put on a fantastic gig, because they always commit.
How about when they toured with GNR in 1992, and Hetfield walked into a 10 foot flame! Axl Rose threw a hissy fit and refused to go on, even though Metallica obviously had to cut their set early. Great guy huh?
Well Hetfield, after suffering from those burns, continued with that tour! He belted out those songs even without being able to play guitar.
Now that's rock n roll! They don't want to disappoint their fans!
Reznor has been awful since the lack of skag, just for reference.
Guns N' Roses are also the most over rated band, possibly ever.
Not Metallica related, but thought I'd throw that in.
Load also isn't that bad, it's good for having a toke to.

I'm not the biggest fan of Load, but I'd say it's certainly better than Reload and St Anger.
As for Death Magnetic....I'm not sure.
The thing I miss the most about Metallica is Hetfields voice. He's been lacking his bark since the Black Album.
I agree that Load isn't bad, which is why I added the "most"
But bite your tongue! Reznor has done a hell of a lot for the music industry, and at least somebody is taking a stand to change things.
Anyway, the stuff post-Fragile is so different..that it's like a whole different artist. So a lot won't like both eras. But he's still an incredible guy - he still wrote The Downward Spiral, Broken etc. And he's always pushing the boundaries, he breaks the rules and sounds great whilst doing it. He's still got those punk elements, when most people now just try to "shock" thinking it's all they can do...
