Big Star.

I just rediscovered my Big Star records. Gorgeous pop rock. Anyone else on here appreciate their work?

Re: Big Star.

I love Yo La Tengo, and that song Take Care is one of my favourites on the Summer Sun album, and that being a Big Star song has made me wanna check them out. Where should I start?

Re: Big Star.

They have three exquisite albums.

'Big Star' is a classic power-pop album and is totally essential.
'Radio City' is another classic power-pop album and is just as essential!
'Sister Lovers' is a doomed masterpiece, and best left until you've soaked up the sunny-pop stuff first. It's essential though

The first two are available on one CD, I think. Get that.

Damn. I seen a cd with 'Sister Lovers' and one of the other albums on it too, yesterday, but had already overspent by that point.

Next stop, eBay . . . The last thing I need right now is to get into ANOTHER band; if I like them, I know I'll end up voraciously buying all their albums, and then anything I can find relating to them. I'm still in the middle of this process with Yo La Tengo, amongst others. I need to STOP. But . . .

Have you heard either the Yo La Tengo or Big Star versions of 'Take Care'? How do they compare?

Re: Big Star.

I only know one song - "Thank You Friends", I seem to remember that's a good song.

Re: Big Star.

His Family and Friends? I'm only guessing though, so you could very well be correct.
