| 10 things everyone should hear Here's a list of 10 songs that, in my opinion, everyone should at least know about. Your job is to acquire those that you don't know and listen to them. Or! Ignore them completely. Either way, post 10 of your own. 1. David Bowie - Life on Mars
In an ideal world, everyone would own everything ever produced by David Bowie, thus allowing them to converse sensibly about music released in the last 40 years. From the Album Hunky Dory. 2. Johnny Cash - The Mercy Seat
Mr. Cash knocks utter fuck out of the Nick Cave version, but in a respectable way. From the album American III: Solitary Man. 3. Heaven 17 - Temptation
This is, without doubt, the gayest song in the known universe. It is also amazing. From the album The Luxury Gap. 4. Iggy Pop - Endless Sea
There are a million Iggy Pop songs that haven't been played to death due to their inclusion on popular movie soundtracks, and this is one of them. It's really nice. If you want something more fun and exciting, get Dog Food while you're at it. From the album New Values. 5. Prick - Animal
Deeply sexual. Love it. From the album Prick. 6. Interpol - obstacle 2*
Backup Joy Division they may be, but they sure as hell know how to knock out a song. Speaking of Joy Division, get New Dawn Fades* while you're at it. From the album Turn on the Bright Lights. 7. The Horatii - The Island of Zombie Women
It's about an island of zombie women. Christ knows what album it's on. Just get it. 8. Nomeansno - Kill Everyone Now
Remember! A stitch in time saves precious bodily fluids! From the album Why Do They Call Me Mr. Happy? 9. Die Toten Hosen - Gary Gilmore's Eyes
Fantastic cover. I don't really think The Adverts did their own song justice. Get One Chord Wonders instead, as it's great. From the album Learning English - Lesson 1 10. Ladytron - Seventeen*
This and Evil are incredible fun to dance about like an idiot to. Yes. From the album Light & Magic. 10a. 2manyDJs - La Rock 01*
The song that finally made me realise what the fuck people see in dance music. Track 26 on As Heard on Radio Soulwax - Part 2.
*Much love to Rosie for pointing such a vast amount of great music my way.
This thread in no way inspired by the fact that I'm sitting with Soulseek open and no idea what the hell I want it for.
This thread was also not in any way originally going to be 'Ten Things I Hate About Muse'. Nope.

One of the best metal songs of the 90's
3.Pantera-The Art Of Shredding
Best Pantera song, one of the best bands ever. R.I.P DBD

Sorta Metal-Blues, the band who were one of the foundations for most music today
5.Led Zeppelin-Black Dog
See where the Darkness came from
6.One Minute Silence-Rise and Shine
Possibly one of, if not my favourite song ever
7.Sepultura-Troops Of Doom

| Re: 10 things everyone should hear Not so much "10 things everybody should hear", but more "10 things most people probably haven't heard which they really might like if they did"… The Dismemberment Plan - You Are Invited
The very essence of storytelling. This is a masterclass in how to write lyrics, whilst ensuring that the music doesn't get in the way and overpower them. Sleater-Kinney - Call the Doctor That's what Riot Grrrl was all about. Now you can stop thinking that having a chick for a singer means you're empowering women. Nada Surf - Popular … Teen Spirit might be the popular anthem, but this was the one song telling America's Gen-X high schoolers the truth. They Might Be Giants - The Sun
Hey, you might learn something. Danceable, yet educational. Soul Coughing - Collapse
To prove that hip-hop is a much broader church than most people realise. Indie-rock slacker jazz free-associating breakbeat joy. Burning Airlines - Paper Crowns
Aye. This is how you do post-rock. At the Drive-in can fuck right off. Life Without Buildings - Juno
The best band ever to come out of Glasgow. If you live here, you really should have heard them. Imagine Sonic Youth with Bjork on vocals. Dntel - This is the Dream of Evan and Chan
Pick a remix or stick to the original. Either way, it proves that organic beauty can be coaxed from the nastiest of man-made machines. DiVinyls - I Touch Myself
Everybody should hear the song about masturbation that went to number one. Consolidated - This is Fascism
Cyber-goth-industrial-what? Ten years ago we just called it 'alternative'.

If i had to suggest 10, they'd look like this: 1. Doves - The Cedar Room.
From their first album. I heard this song, and my jaw dropped. I simply love it to bits, and have done for years. Simple, but really effective. Makes the hairs on my neck stand up every time the chorus hits. 2. The Velvet Underground - Pale Blue Eyes
It's slow, but it's great. Fantastic lyrics. Probably my favourite song of theirs. 3. Joy Division - Disorder
There's a strong chance everyone has heard this, but for those who haven't it's worth a look. It's so raw. 4. Verve - Slide Away
Put simply, it's my favourite Verve song. Recorded before Richard Ashcroft picked up his acoustic guitar and wrote a bunch of middle-of-the-road rubbish. This is all about the bassline. 5. Stevie Wonder - Livin' For the City
The lyrics in this song are fantastic. As is the funk. You can't help but tap along. 6. John Frusciante - Ricky
It's another slow one, but fuck sake, it's amazing. The melody is amazing. 7. Neil Young - After the Gold Rush
It's about how the world has been polluted to shit, and people have to leave to colonise other planets. It's lovely stuff, even if he is singing above his range. 8. Bob Dylan - It's All Over Now, Baby Blue
Heard Beck's "Jack-Ass"?
That covered the cover Van Morrison did of this song.
I love it. 9. Mad Capsule Markets - Midi Surf
The closing song from their best album.
It's just raw energy, but with the fucking catchiest chorus you've heard. 10. William Shatner - Real
Don't ask. Just get it.

Leonard Cohen - Famous Blue Raincoat (verbal sex)
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah (slow, graceful voice with a strong soul)
Jimi Hendrix - Little Wing (changed the way people approach guitar music)
