next thing you know you'll be taking Laibach seriously.
Or is it that Scotland is just an extension of Poland and we all hate the Jews?

| Re: Racism at clubs? WTF?
I'm shocked at this post for obvious reasons!
If it is a pisstake then it was in poor taste.
If it's genuine then I think you are a bit too highly strung about our religion (yes I said our) for your own good. You can't walk through life taking offense at everything.
I know that my older relatives almost disowned me when I had a German girlfriend a few years back but my cousins etc were ok with it. It's up to our generation to "deal" with this and move forward.

every year we get problems with refusing to let (otherwise very worthy) groups affiliate because THEIR constitutions guarantee free speech and OURS prohibits it. so for (really bad) example we wouldn't allow a worthy society like amnesty international to invite a member of the BNP to come speak at their meeting, even if it was the purposes of showing them up. the whole "no platform" argument.
tricky one; i don't have very strong opinions but i do err slightly on the side of free speech i suppose.

The blind spot as far as Wagner, Marschner, Weber and pals go, though, is a bit silly.

| Re: Racism at clubs? Wow! ... now that really must be a piss-take! ... I mean ... no-one seriously would want to make themselves look that silly, would they?!
...On what premises do you claim that Rammstein is a fascist band?! Or did you think their name is just giving everything away?? The thing is, I pretty much agree w/ what a few people have already said ... their stuff is pretty crappy! If you understood the lyrics, you'd know what I'm on about. The music is ok, but the lyrics are ... just ... shite, don't make much sense & usually you hear a song & it's interesting for a while, before starting to become VERY boring... &, as far as I know (& although I'm not a big fan, I do know a few of their songs), there's nothing fascist/ racist whatsoever in their silly lyrics! Besides, I don't think they even want to be taken seriously, but if you want to annoy them, please do!

That's true but I guess the point I was getting at is that opera first came into being in Italy during the Baroque period. Wagner, Marschner and Weber are all much later than Vivaldi and so, are built on Italian precepts.
In terms of aural aestethic an Italian butterfly is much prettier than a German Schmetterling. I heart how this thread has shifted away from Industrial
