Amsterdam
Now.. I know what you're thinking... a rock band let loose on Amsterdam.. but we're all very well behaved young boys... honestly!
Well.. ok, thats not strictly speaking true.. Brad our driver can be a bit of a handful..
The Melkweg is a famous club, well known and respected on the touring circuit, but being smack bang in the middle of Amsterdam makes it a bit difficult to actually get to in a bus, and even in out van. So the first hour or so of the day is spent shouting at the satnav system for taking us a route that might be fine for someone on a bicycle, but not for us.
They sell anything in the Cafes of Amsterdam.. another joke just for the Glaswegians reading this
We finally get there, and Mike has to jet off to do a skate demo while we load in and get set up.
Everything runs very smoothly today, so there's nothing really to talk about gig wise.
Highlight of my day is being able to catch up with a very old friend of mine who works here now.. Big John.. he's played in too many bands over the years to mention, including playing live with Nirvana on their last two ever shows.
He's so unassuming that he never really talks about the stuff he's done in the past, always looking to the future.. but whatever.. it's great to see him again.
Munster
Today is officially a day off, but we're in Munster at the Skaters Palace for another Demo and signing with Mike.. not really much for the rest of us to do but hang about, so I try my hand at Skate Photography.. you can see from only a couple of usable pics that there's much more to it than there looks.
After the demo there are loads of kids hanging around waiting to get stuff signed including, as always, loads of really wee kids who must only be about 10 or 11. Some of whom were really shit hot skaters I have to say..
After all this we walk around and find, what we in Glasgow would describe as an old man's pub. Not much in the way of atmosphere, but fantastic food.. lots of really simple dishes, lots of meat and potatoes.. definitely the meal of the tour so far.
Cologne
Everyone is a little excited as this is one of the shows that's been moved up into a bigger venue. It certainly looks like a nicer place, nice big car park at the side of the venue.
We've got loads of time today, so it's off to find somewhere to do some laundry. I've said it before many times, there's something very relaxing about doing laundry.. just sitting watching your clothes go round and round.. maybe I'm just a bit strange?
Backstage.. not the rock and roll party you expected.. is it?
The gig itself is a little wierd.. the crowd are a little flat..it's really hard to get them going, but the boys are putting everything they can into it and as we near the end of the set, we're slowly starting to win them over.
As always the guys come out to the merch area for the end of the show, and the openess they have with the fans wins us over a few new recruits.. all good.
Job done, and it's off to Berlin..
Berlin
The Kato club in Berlin is a strange little place.. it's underneath one of the city U-Bahn stations, but on it's on a little island in the middle of a busy junction. Getting the gear across the street and into the club is.. interesting to say the least. Imagine pushing boxes across the track at the Indy 500.
Colin has friends in town, and at the end of the night.. well.. lets just say there is some drinking done..
OK, so I admit the battery on my camera dies right at the start of the gig, so no gig pics from tonight although we've got a day off here too.. so have some more 'offstage' pics to keep you happy for a little while.
Jason takes to a little afternoon busking
I was a little disturbed by this..
There's definitely a shortage of good band names these days..
Brendan and Mike at the Brandenburg Gate
Donut anyone?
After you've had a Mucky Fuck..
.. what better to refresh yourself with that some BallSack Coffee?
OK, so thats it for Berlin.. off on the road to Milan.. only a 15 hr drive in our little van..
