Barred for Life - a wee bit OTT?

Posted 12th December 2004 at 2:49pm by Hevs
Well seeing as its been about 7 months since I left the employ of the Cathouse I decided to see if they would let me in last night as I was out on a rare night in Glasgow and wandered round with a couple of my mates. Kev had gone in earlier and asked one of the bouncers if I would be let back in again and he said I should be OK but nope - as soon as I got to the pay desk someone checked with management and they said I was barred for life for the henious crime of daring to leave their employment I hear there are a few rumours flying around the catty staff that I faked my ear infection while I looked for another job, well considering I gave them a sick line and my doctor aint in the habit of faking them I dont see how this particular rumour got started. Anyhoo as Im not in the habit of job hunting from 10.30pm-3am I dont see how this makes any sense at all, had I wanted to look for another job I could simply have done it when I wasnt working (as in during the day) As it stands I was offered the other job by my current boss who knew I was experienced in secretarial and clerical work and offered me more money than I was being paid at the catty. Silly me for posting that good news on the forum where it was read by a member of management who got rather annoyed with little me, and also told me they never received the letter I sent them advising them that I would not be returning to the Cathouse to work. I did post one to them, I have no idea if they ever actually got it and I havent bothered to ask them.

Still I fail to see what purpose barring me for life will achieve. I know they ban people for being sacked and for walking out but thats not what happened here, although I can see why they would think I had walked out if they never got my letter. Ach well, its not like its the only place I go and I havent even missed the place to be fair, it would just be nice to go in now and again and say hello to some people and dance with my dancing buddy. At least I know now how long my ban is for cause they never actually told me in the first place, I just got a \"your barred\" yelled at me over the forum one day. Meh!!

That\'s ridiculous! Seems like such a bad business decision too, to be honest, to bar staff just because they leave :(

Hey dear,

I was just about to text you about this... I spoke to Brian and Kirsty last night, and they informed me that your ban was for life, the reason being (their Point of View) is because whilst you were on the sick, claiming a sick line, you posted on the forum before you notified them, that you had quit the cathouse, and were actually starting a new job. They didn\'t recieve any letters, and so therefore, as far as they could/can tell, you walked out without giving any notice... This is a life ban offence, and so thats whats happened Staff do get banned anyway when they leave, from 3-6months, but if you get fired or walk out, its extended to life it seems. Sorry dear But Rev is always an option?

Thats totally insane. So even if you leave and give notice etc you still get banned for 3-6 months. So basically the only way to not get banned is to work at the Cathouse for ever and ever and never aspire to anything else.
Thats like shops banning ex-employees from ever buying things from there or call centres banning people who leave from ever getting annoying phone calls at 9am on a saturday - oh wait, thats could be a good thing

If you left one week and came in drinking the next, its not gonna be immediately clear to everyone that you no longer work there, -both staff and punters- so a resting period kinda makes sense. Its kinda gay because it means you have nowhere to go for a wee while, but I myself can see the logic in it, and since its the catty policy, well, its something that when you work there you come to accept as a given.

Hevs, its reallt unfortunate that you are barred for Life, but like you said, there are plenty of other places to go, just give us a shout if you should ever want some company

They have a policy of banning former employees? That\'s totally weird. Like cupotea says, it\'s as if working there is a potential lifelong career or something.
In a bizzaro-world version of your story, I was once ejected from the Solid Rock and told I was banned for life. About 4 months later, I was working as a bouncer there!
