Got something special in my hands... and it's not

I've got the new Zelda game and you haven't, hahahaha. Not that anyone but me is likely to care, but this is a bit of an occasion for me. It's not every day one of the greatest videogame series ever made (and possibly my all-time favorite too) gets a new incarnation... and what an incarnation this is looking to be. New Zelda + next gen hardware + an art direction that (as far as I've seen) can be described as nothing less than 'stunning' (unless you don't like cartoons, in which case... grow up!)... oh, man... I can't wait to get home. This excitement might seem strange to someone who isn't particularly interested or clued-up on videogames, but let's say it's kinda similar to how I feel on the day a new Wildhearts release hits the shops. Or when a new song comes together for the first time, and we're playing it to a packed venue. Or when I'm going to see someone I haven't seen in years. Or that first time you 'get it on' with a new partner... life is all dynamics, as Devin Townsend puts it, and this is one of the funner ones.

It might seem strange, a 25-year old guy acting like an over-excited kid over a game about a cartoon elf that fights pig-monsters that you play on a silly purple videogame machine that looks like an oversized kids building block. Kinda fruity, actually. But y'see, Nintendo games tend to have a sort of innocent child-like quality to them... it's not that they are specifically made for kids, we're not talking Barny the fucking dinosaur or Tellytubbies here... just that youthful sense of wonder that becomes harder and harder to find as you get older. There's no sense of adventure working yourself miserable day in day out in a big dull grey office just so you can pay some bills. Playing these Nintendo games... they really do take me back to being a kid and everything was amazing, especially since (as far as I'm told) I had a more active imagination than my peers back then. Planet Earth's a fucker of a place to be when you grow up... so if there's a chance to forget about it, and 'live' a life that's a little more magical for a while, then that's a good thing... and let's face it, I'd look even more stupid if I was to head out to the woods in Moodiesburn with a wooden sword pretending to be a ninja in real life, wouldn't I?

I also like games where you steal cars, blow stuff up, and beat prostitutes with baseball bats. But then again, so does everyone else.

Wow... that's far too much stuff to write on the subject of Zelda. Guess it passes the time till I get home...

Not much Minus3 stuff happening today... it's looking likely that we won't reherse till next week, which is a bummer, but we've managed to land ourselfs a couple of really good gigs this week, which is good. Back in the Cathouse in May to headline a Stepping Stone... I was beginning to think Keith just didn't love us (we told him a while ago we'd like on one), then out of the blue he called Cuff to say he found the CD of ours that he lost and it roxorz his boxorz off. Cool. A couple more added to the list too, still waiting on some people to get back to me on one or two things, Cuff's out there on the hunt now too... I think even Posh might be joining in the gig-hunt. The more, the merrier... and I can't wait to get Posh onstage with us. Rock and mother fucking roll.

When I was walking down Argyle Street earlier, I saw some builders putting finishing touches around where that new Radion or whatever hotel is... the whole area has been made to look all shiny and new, with their fancy art-deco benches and their 'upmarket' London-style pubs and stuff, all very expensive and modern looking. And there was an old man lying on the new pavement, asking passers-by for change. I'll have to say, the irony certainly wasn't lost on me.

I need to find something to do for the next 6 hours, got a serious case of ants in my pants here...
