Sometimes, truth is stranger than fiction...

Posted 10th October 2002 at 11:23am by Stu
Been far too busy to update this thing... still supposed to be busy, but I'm bored as fuck with this office crap so I figured I'll pass the time till I get motivated (yeah, right) by bringing this thing up to speed...

A lot has happened in the past week or so... in fact, I have some really BIG news (understatement) that I really want to share with the world, but I can't at the moment... damnit. So it'll just be the boring stuff I'm writing about today...

First up... recording last week went well. We got five tracks down, and we're really pleased with how it's turned out... cost us a bit, and no matter how many times I do it, I can't find recording anything but really fucking boring... but yeah, I think we got what we wanted from it, and it sure as hell beats that piss-poor punk CD we recorded with Meech last year... a bit of variety at last. I was still ridden with the flu all the way through it (which was passed to Scruff over the course of the two days, he spent most of the second day sitting in the corner shivering... ha), but I think I got away with it as far as vocals go, which was my biggest worry (since I could barely speak, never mind sing)... a bit on the weak side, but I'm getting used to the sound of my own voice now... even my dodgy attempt at ripping off Greg Graffin on 'Downer' doesn't sound as bad as I thought it would. Feedback's been really positive so far too... at very least it's a good start to this new incarnation of the band, and it can only get better from here...

John got so excited about it all he went out and bought a new CD burner and about a million CDs/covers etc to start getting them out to people right away... which was really stupid of him, because I can't afford to pay for it right now. D'oh.

Went almost straight from the studio (got home about 4:30am or something on Thursday night...) to moving house early Friday morning. Now that was painful... I was fucked. Still weak from the flu, tired as hell... I own too much useless crap to be moving house, especially in that state. We got there in the end, though... I'm really happy with the move so far, I wasn't entirely into the idea of moving to Paisley at first (bad rep), but it's actually suprisingly... amazing! Top-floor flat, in a very student-y area... church right across the road... all you ever see is students or old people. Everything is literally right round the corner, it's like living in a minature version of Glasgow city centre. Just about anything we need is right there for us... I can even get to the train station from the flat in less time than it takes to have a cigarette, and strangely I can get into Glasgow faster than I could at Ibrox. So yeah, I'm enjoying it out there so far... don't know how long I'm going to be there for though, so I'm finding it kinda hard to get settled. Maybe I'll feel better when I bother my arse to buy some curtains.

Haven't had much time to socialise with all the recording and moving and being ill and having to come to work and blah blah blah... took Janette out for dinner on Sunday night, some Mexican place... got a message in the middle of dinner inviting us to go see Templeball at Strawberry Fields, turned out to be more of a punk gig (Mutley, DNR, and The People's Alibi were there too), some decent sets even though the sound was a bit pish... and it wasn't really Janette's kind of thing... and there was literally almost no fucker there apart from us, Kelv and the other bands (TPA didn't even get that... most of the other bands had fucked off by the time they came on, they were damn good too...), oh well. It was an OK night anyway, wasn't so bad after a couple of drinks... plus I scored us a gig in there on the 28th of November. Which is nice.

Back at work at this week, and everyone's miserable as fuck, and no-one will explain why. I hate being here at times like this, I mean, it's hard to get motivated to get out of bed when you know you're gonna be in this kind of company all day... it's all politics, backstabbing and bullshit... same old, same old.

Cooked dinner for Janette on Tuesday... I haven't cooked for as long as I can remember. Suprisingly, I didn't kill anyone. Was very strung out last night about the previously mentioned thing I can't talk about (bet you're curious now)... much calmer now, though. Oh aye, and John said Scruff went out to meet that tutor guy who got us money off the recording... and apparently MiNUS3 have a manager now. Or something. I don't know... I'll call John at some point today and find out what that's all about. I don't like it when things like that happen and I'm not involved...

I have fuck all to do tonight. Which is nice... got the first forum gig to go to tomorrow night (looking forward to it actually, top-notch bands playing), catching up with the parents on Saturday afternoon (long overdue... took me a few days before I even pointed out to them I had moved, I'm a horrible son...), wee housewarming do on Saturday night I think... so tonight, I'm gonna sit on my lazy arse and do nothing, and I'm gonna enjoy it.

That's all that springs to mind just now... going for a cigarette, then back to stupid work...
