Our AS400 here in the office has been crippled by a thing we call 'monthend programs', as the bastard thing hasn't worked quite so good since we upgraded the operating system a couple of months ago. This means there isn't much I can do until it's finished... bored stupid now, so I might as well update this thing.
Spent much of the past couple of days upgrading and fine-tuning my PC at home with various things I've bought & things I've stolen from the office. It's left me pretty tired... I was up till about 3am this morning messing around with stuff, I got WinXP to fuck to make way for Win2K (stolen from the office, naturally)... the MCSE I'll be doing is in Win2K, figured it might be handy to have it at home... anyway, can I just say, never underestimate what an ATi Radeon 9700 Pro and a Sound Blaster Audigy Player will do for your average PC... I mean, holy shit. For a laugh, I tried Vice City, with the ansiotropic filtering and anti-aliasing (which goes up to 6x on the 9700 Pro) turned up full wack. Draw distance up full, and all that jazz. Basically pushed it as hard as I could. My PC laughed at me, and literally said 'Hey! That tickles!', before running down the street giggling like a schoolgirl... cool. Framerates out the wazoo! And this is before I've even done all the usual system tweaks and stuff... bring on the Half Life 2, I say!
I'm such a geek.
In less geekier news, 'Off The Cuff' promotions has now been launched, right into the deep end, after a conversation that consisted of little more than 'fuck it, let's do it'. Got a date from the 13th Note, which has now been booked for the return of the Alt. Nation 'forum gigs'. Not 100% sure on what bands we're going to put on yet, but it sure is a good way to get our hands dirty with this promotions thing. So far so good... this is exactly the kind of thing I'll be needing to keep myself from getting suicidal or something after the 15th of this month, so I hope it works out as we're planning it. Got some plans to put some bands on other than the forum thing too, plus there's Minus3 to deal with... looks like I'll be spending a lot of time with the rock 'n' roll world in the near future, which is nice because I'm in love with it.
Many would think otherwise after the aformentioned PC shenanigans, but I'm actually doing good with the old saving the pennies thing. It's just breaking all these bad habits... I'm still don't have the demon cancer sticks out of my system, but on the other hand I'm not spending nearly so much money on them. The little things that add up to a lot, I'm slowly but surely stopping myself from doing them, leaving me the money for the cool stuff.
It's funny that I still haven't bought curtains for my bedroom, though.
I'm bored with this again... hmm.
