Dilemma Of A Twenty-Something

Guys like me, we have an abnormal fear of having to 'grow up'. Sure, I've had to go through and deal with my share of 'mature' situations in my life, I can go pretty deep when I need to, but there's always that nagging thought in the back of the head that's telling you 'hey, you're not a kid anymore... hell, it's been a long time since you've even been a teenager'.
This is a problem. Guys like me, we need the banal to keep going, to have faith enough in the world to be able to face it. We need those Saturday mornings where you bum around watching cartoons. We need those times when you can have a good old singalong to the stupidest songs. We need to play videogames with plumbers that jump on the heads of evil turtles. We need to be silly. We need to be childish. This is not what the world expects of a grown man, and you have to be the grown man to be anything, to provide for yourself and others, to pay the bills, to be an adult. What are guys like me supposed to do when we grow up? To be the adult, and to be the kid you don't want to let go of, it doesn't mix too well... you can't give up the fun stuff, you can't avoid growing up. It's a problem alright. But...
I worked it out.
I know the solution to this little growing pain, I know what makes everything OK. And who'd have thought it... it all came to me while I was watching a commercial for soap powder.
Amazing.

| | Ooooh, it goes way further than just that. For me, anyway... I\'ve always been like that, but somehow it\'s not quite enough. All I\'ll say is, you\'ll know it when it happens. ![]() |
