I love the Cathouse to bits, but the lack of anywhere else to go has always been a pain, and now there is somewhere. It's also morbidly funny to see any firm which, after years of no serious competition finally gets some, floundering rather than taking the brilliant opportunity to majorly improve itself in order to combat the competition. I'd love for CPL to not do this with the Saturday night, but it's not gone too well with the Thursdays so I'm less than optimistic.

A new club night of quality was always going to expose weaknesses in the Cathouse that hadn't been noticed to the same extent before, as it would anywhere. Nothing personal, just the way it goes.

i agree, i went to the cathouse when barry was there, i went through habit, ive been twice in about 6 months in comparison to going every weekend.

Going to bamboo made me hate going even more

The big deal is that this is the first real competition that the Cathouse has had in Glasgow since ( Apologies to Barry... ) the Rat Trap.

All other clubs/nights have been hampered by being on only mid-week, having more expensive drinks than the Catty, being in shite venues, being in venues where you need signed in, or any combination up to and including all of the above.

Short of Forbes buying his own place, this is about the best thing that could happen and I really look forward to checking it out.

And yes, it would be awesome if the Catty raised it's game to compete.
It's perfectly possible to have multiple rock clubs/nights in one city, with a friendly rivalry between them that means they do constantly try to better themselves - With that working well for the scene(s) overall.

It's about time Glasgow became the same way.

I agree, if the Catty raised its game then I see no reason why folk cant go to both. It'd be pretty shite if the Catty didn't raise its game, imo. We need a bit of healthy competition and choice.

Both of you speak the truth. It's a real shame the Catty hasn't done more in response to the first AltNation night, we can but hope a second will change that.

Yeah. As much as folk seem to be bashing the place these days it would be a shame to see it go down the pan completely.

I wish Forbes, Barry and Dec all the best with this but I do hope we end up with two great alternatives for a Saturday night and not just one.

The Cathouse will hate you for this. They already started getting desperate ("You get in FREE on Thursdays! It's our worst night, but it's FREEEEEE!") shortly after Altnation night started, but this might actually get them to... be better!

Caturdays are boring for me. I was okay with Fridays until I stopped getting free entry and realised that they were playing the same stuff every week.

In other words, I'll go to this!

Nah, I'll be very open about it. I'll jump out right in front of them, yelling and screaming, and photograph their reactions. That way, you get unanimously bizarre pictures and you can't tell who's pissed, and everyone looks like they were caught doing something they shouldn't so it doesn't matter if you actually were.
