In fact I don't think I fit into the "Goth"* image that some people seem to expect in the rock scene.
I love the fact that a diverse range of people are appearing at the club and it's not being pigeon holed as "that mad goth club".
* By Goth I mean the main stream use of the word not the actual Goth look. |
All I'm saying is that the pictures look like they could be taken at any nightclub. I don't know the people in them, so I'm not making any comment on them, and I resent the implication that I'm making a judgement on the people based solely on their appearance.
The photographer seems to have selected photographs that look pretty generic, which gives the impression of a mainstream club. As you say, a diverse range of people go to the Classic Grand, and it would have been nice for the pictures to reflect that. |

You seem to have missed the hairy tattooist wearing the Lucky 13 top in the top picture, the guy wearing the Misfits top on the left, the trucker cap below and the guys and girls with "scenester hair" and the piercings. In the end though you have a "image" that fits the alt scene and these people don't fit that image you have, that doesn't make them not part of the alt scene.
I do agree all these people would fit just as well in the Garage but perhaps that's because the music scene has changed and there's now a huge cross over. I would have liked a little more range but as has been said, when it's free I can't really complain .

I was commenting on the article's bias, not judging the people in it.
A Misfits top and a sideshed can't exactly be taken as signs of a club's "alternative nature", as you see people wearing those in pretty much any club in Glasgow without a smart dress code.
In my experience, Alternative Nation, and the "alternative scene" in general are pretty damn diverse and accepting, and like you say, a bit more range in the pictures would have been nice. While the "scene" (God, I hate that term) is becoming more diverse and popular, the press don't seem to have picked up on that as well, and consistently describe either the "crossover" aspects or the "suicidal MCR cultists". |

Having said that I love seeing people that are really into different looks, old school punks, real Goths , Thrashers and everyone else. It's definitely what makes the place better. | I don't think anyone doesn't love the diverse range of people appearing at the club but just a bit confused as to why there isn't a diverse range of people appearing in the article.
Could tell it was all done on Dec's floor right away too.

Sorry those people in the picture are part of the scene, heck few of them are in bands. I do agree though a few more extreme dressed alt types would have been nice.

As Forbes said though, it's free publicity to an "Alternative" night which pretty much encompasses all types of everything. Everyone's "alternative" to someone else or group.
Better than being "mainstream" i suppose! |

I was referring to the fact that, despite the club being an "alternative" club, the pictures didn't seem to reflect that; they looked like they could be taken in any club. If I were taking pictures in a club that marketed itself as a bit different from the "mainstream", I'd want to capture that in the images - have a bit of diversity going on, a few more unusual shots. As Marilyn Manson said "The beautiful people, the beautiful people!!"
Not everyone can look like "mutants" like us mate! |

| Re: Tonights Evening Times - Absolution double page spread. I think its good that the pictures arent of 'mad goths' - could encourage people who like alternative music, but aren't into the 'fashion' side of it to go along one night. I think a LOT of people are put off going places because they don't feel as if they'd fit in if they wore their regular clothes. |

We want to avoid it and while we are a Rock, Metal, Punk etc club...no RnB on a Friday/Saturday, we've an electros and an indie night during the week and a host of live acts ranging from Comedians through to Celtic conections stuff to Grand Master Flash, Shaun Ryder and Shit! Disco sets never mind the small live acts.
I love the variety but I'm bias as hell .
