i've certainly heard barry play heavy music (!), so if you were only there for about fifteen minutes you maybe just happened to be there when a few songs you don't like were on also, you're TOTALLY not who i thought you were then, i thought you worked there

Like I said, it wasn't what I expected. the music was, IMO, bad, not because it was bad music, but because it was out of context with what was expected, and expectations were created from the flyer I was given, as this is all I (and anyone else who has never been before) can go on.
Is this another case of ganging up because someone states their opinion?
Over and out. I'm not getting involved in an argument when all i'm saying is that it wasn't what was expected. And my mate thought the same thing. |

Umm...
What exactly got played that made you go elsewhere?
And where did you go?
And what did they play?
Since any time I've been in Classic Grand, Barry's played ( Within the first hour or so of opening ) stuff like:
Pitchshifter
Pop Will Eat Itself
Killing Joke
White Zombie
Strapping Young Lad
Slayer
Fear Factory
Metallica
Prodigy
Biohazard
And other such goodies.
Granted, this is generally in an attempt to kill me, but I'll give him that Quote:

| Well, you can't make a complaint like you did, without:
A. Expecting a reaction from people who disagree with your opinion, which...
B. Could do with some specifics so we know if you're talking from a well-informed standpoint or not. |

I wasn't looking for something heavy - it's just that's what I expected from the flyer I was given. The music was fine, just not what I was expecting. Hence I left. It's nothing personal. Quote:

Went to the casino instead lol.
I don't know the specific music that was played. I remember my mate saying 'this is a bit tame compared to what I thought it was going to be like', and I was kind of thinking the same thing. I was there at about 11:45 ish.
I'm not saying anything bad about the DJ, just the flyer misled (for when I was there anyway).

15 minutes is never enough time to give a club - That's about 4 songs ( Or 15 at Punktrap ).
Especially if you can't even be arsed requesting anything. |

Most (if not all) flyers I see each week have "insert nights name here" and then usually a list of drinks promos and types of bands/music that will be getting played.
What exactly did you expect to get played on the night just cos the flyer said "damnation"? Please be specific and not just say heavy music. It will help the DJs and promotions teams in future. |

Especially if you can't even be arsed requesting anything. | That's fine. That's your opinion, and fair enough.
but it's is simple as this - we get handed a flyer, we think 'this looks like it'll be pretty rockin', so we go in and have a drink, and for the time we are there (15 minutes or not - this is the kind of thing that happens in a club - especially when you don't have to pay to get in - if people don't like it, they'll leave) there isn't really any connection between the flyer I was given, and the place I was.
That's it.
So we went elsewhere. simple as that. |

| Re: Free Friday - Times are tough you're missing the point - A lot of us here know the DJs at Classic Grand, and some of us are or have been DJs ourselves.
So it's somewhat irritating when folk say "That was pish" without being specific.
Like when I'm DJing and I reply to that comment with "Well, what would you like to hear?"
The answer "Anything good!" is not acceptable!
So, please, name some bands or songs that you expected to hear, from the flyer you were given. |

I always find upstairs WAAAY too heavy/metal for my tastes, did you actually go up there or did you go downstairs?

| Re: Free Friday - Times are tough i remember walking into the catty for the AN 4th birthday party and walking past barry's room which five minutes before the club even opened was sounding like the twin towers collapsing onto a pile of snare drums filled with dynomite, all miced up by gary numan's sound engineer.
so yeah, i wondered as well if you'd just gone downstairs or something!

Don't worry - i'm not so naive as to say 'play something good' lol.
I'll be honest - it always struck me as the job of the club to correlate the flyer with the actual music being played, as this is usually the sign of a good club - give the client what they have been led to expect?
Anyway - the flyer seemed quite industrial/gothic, not emo/indie/punk, so I expected the music to be industrial/gothic. Which, when I was there, it wasn't.
Like I said, i'm in no way insulting the DJ or any DJ that has ever worked there, but what i'm saying is the music sounded pretty bad due to the expectations created by the flyer, as, like I said, me and my mate both expected something heavier than emo/indie, and this is what was playing for the time we were in there (it was probably longer than 15 minutes btw, as my mate is a slow drinker lol).
I think you're slightly missing the point - regardless of whether or not you know the DJ (and i'm sure he's a great guy), you need to see by that and see it from a business perspective i.e. getting people in the door and keeping them there. I came in the door as I expected some heavy stuff in the styles I mentioned, but the music turned out to be lighter that what was expected. So we left. The flyer would have been fine if it implied the music that was being played there, which was, like I said, more emo/indie/punk (when I was there anyway)
Most people who pay to get in somewhere will stay there, as they have paid to get in, so I understand the issue. Make it free to get more folk in, which is fair enough. But misleading the client just puts them off, and won't encourage them to go back. Neither do threads from people who i'm assuming are some of the regulars there telling someone who took the time to pop in with their mate and check it out that they are 'talking mince'. Dangerous ground, as a place relies on reputation.
But i'm not a child, and probably will go back to give it another go. And stay for longer this time lol.
I'm all for anything to do with altnation being a success btw, so don't think i'm raining on anyone's parade here. Like I said, I went in with the intention of having a good night, and with the intention of staying. As you do when you go into a club. |

| Re: Free Friday - Times are tough You need to go upstairs. I've never heard Barry play anything 'emo/indie' upstairs on a Friday other than the one time he put on Biffy when it was dead. That's for us with rubbish taste downstairs.
