Io (Glasgow Uni Sci-Fi/Fantasy Society)

Right well its probably sensible for us to have our own bit here too, especially if we seem to work on occassion slightly peacefully with the aforementioned LGBT and STAGers.

So this is for Io, the GU Sci-Fi and Fantasy Society.

Details of our nights (Wednesdays, Committee Room2 from 7, meet in Food Factory from 6) will appear here.

Or alternately,

go to http://www.lordofthemoon.com/iowiki/Main_Page

where you can keep up to date with the latest goings on (Now updated daily)

See the event on the 15th, is it original or new Battlestar Galatica your showing?

Ach The classic series was so much better then the new one.

I still haven't decided if I'll come yet, but I'll see if I can bring something if I do (it'll probably be Red Dwarf or ST: DS9 though).

You'll complain if I bring Star Trek Though it has to be said that the first two series of DS9 contain some of the best Trek episodes ever made.

Think I could get away with The Prisoner as Sci-Fi?

It'll be both if Keef has anything to do with it. And he's running it.

Re: Io (Glasgow Uni Sci-Fi/Fantasy Society)

Hello lovely people.

A bit random, but would IO like to do a debate in the QM in the second week of next term? I'd like for there to be a Star Wars/ Star Trek debate, possibly in the realms of 'This House Believes That Star Trek has far more believable stories than Star Wars'.

If not, can anyone come up with anything more exciting/relevant?

...Discuss!

I'll put it to the committee, but Io has a longstanding rule about not touching such things. Star Wars vs Star Trek has been done to death, it usually degenerates into a battle of entrenched opinions, and it's the sort of all-out spodfest that gives people the wrong idea about the society.

If you'd like to have it out here, though, I'm game. You might have to define some terms first, though. What do you mean by Star Trek? Because some of the original series episodes are pretty out there. It might be fairer to limit it to the films, but even then, I'm not sure if anything Star Wars has to offer can compete with "William Shatner saves the whales by going back in time, at the behest of mysterious whale-loving aliens".
